Working.
I’m a Staff Platform Engineer at Redcare Pharmacy, mostly working on Kubernetes on Azure.
Learning.
My CKA expires in December, and so does my KCNA. One exam covers both: under CNCF’s new CARE program, recertifying the CKA renews the KCNA too. It also keeps my Kubestronaut title, so the deadline is 31 December. No exam booked yet; I’ll probably wing it.
After that I’m torn between Golden Kubestronaut and OffSec’s new OSAI. Ten more exams for a title that probably nobody cares about, or one hard one on attacking AI systems.
Outside.
In 2024 I bought a Koga Colmaro Extreme, and it’s the bike that turned cycling from a way of getting around into a hobby. It still does everything. I mostly ride around Mainz: about 50 km during the week, 100 km or more at the weekend.
Next spring I want to buy an Avona Callis, purely for sport. The Koga then becomes my city and commuting bike.
Building.
I’ve replaced komoot and VeloPlanner with domestique, my own vibe-coded app, and I plan every ride with it now. It lets me draw new routes or import existing ones, and syncs them to my Wahoo. Under the hood it’s open source and free APIs: OpenFreeMap for the map, BRouter and Bikerouter for routing, Open-Meteo for the weather.
komoot’s gravel routing never matched how I ride, I’d rather keep my routes than rent them, and too much sits behind the subscription. Mostly, though, building it is fun. It won’t become a commercial tool; it’s just for my wife and me.
Playing.
My wife and I just finished Baldur’s Gate 3 in co-op, over the last two months. Next up is a replay of The Witcher 3 once the remaster comes out on 29 September.
This is a now page, an idea from Derek Sivers.
